IPG Mediabrands New York agencies collected donations from across our network for PS 43, a grade school and community center that was devastated by Hurricane Sandy last fall.
On Feb. 22, a group of volunteers packed up and delivered more than 40 boxes of donations, including electronics, books, school supplies, toys and games.
We got a chance to spend the afternoon at the school sorting the donations and doing an art project with some of the elementary school students.
It was a great day all around, thank you PS 43 for hosting!
Below is an excerpt of Nicole Eryan’s, Media Supervisor at BPN, experience at this philanthropic effort:
Last week I spent the afternoon volunteering at a NYC Public School called PS 43. The school sits on the Rockaway Beach and was damaged during Hurricane Sandy. So, to lift some spirits, we all hopped on a bus to deliver donated art supplies, basketballs, books, TVs, and more.
The kids were fantastic…so energetic and full of spirit. We even had time to do an art project with them to signify the healing and recovery ahead. Each child wrote down one word that represented them best and traced a cut out of their hand as “leaves”. We did the same.
It was a great day…and we all walked away feeling like we should never hesitate to take a moment to do things like that more.
